I’ve always thought that I was mispronouncing Felix Cartal’s name when I was introducing him as “Felix Car-tell.” The reason I gravitated towards this pronunciation was that I discovered him shortly after finding Boombox Cartel which has a straightforward pronunciation. Is it Felix “Cart-owl,” “Car-tull,” “Car-tell?” I can now say confidently that it is in fact “Car-tell” as referenced by his interview with Scion AV. Though this is actually his stage name. His given name is Taelor Deitcher, but we’ll save that pronunciation debate for a different day…

“Love Me” brings in Lights who has her own prolific career. Her songs skew more towards pop, which doesn’t interest me much, but Felix Cartal’s production helps give this collaboration a bit more punch. That being said, Lights sounds somewhat different in this song than in her other works. Her delivery is much more staccato and the vocals come through more nasally. This isn’t necessarily bad, as it gives her performance a unique colouring. Both artists are Vancouver natives, which likely made this a simple collaboration from a logistics standpoint.
